Where were you born and raised?

Boston, Mass

If you aren’t from Pittsburgh or the surrounding areas, what brought you to Pittsburgh, PA?

Mom moved back to Pittsburgh and I grew up in the Homewood/Point Breeze area of Pittsburgh.

How long have you been associated with the Highland Park Tennis Club? In what capacities?

18 years!  Thanks to Coach Dan Jones and Brenda for encouraging me to come to the clinics!  I’ve had the pleasure of serving as Corresponding Secretary for two years.

At what age, where and with whom did you first begin playing tennis?

20 yrs. of age with my Aunt Delores at Frick’s clay courts

Did you play for any school teams?  If so, what teams, when and at what schools?

No.   I wish I had pursued tennis earlier

What level tennis player are you now?  What was your highest ranking?

Not sure

Do you play in tournaments now?  If so, why?  If not, why not?

A few when given the time

Do you prefer singles, doubles and or mixed play?  Why?

Singles, however, the older I get I love doubles

Name two of your favorite tennis players and tell why they are your favorites.

Venus and Serena.   Truly they have inspired me to play and are so strong mentally and physically.

If you could ask each of them a question, what would the questions be?

What do they consider their greatest victory and why?  Who in tennis do they admire most?

What is it about the game that you like? Why?

The movement of the game.  Love to stay active.

Is there anything about the game that you don’t like and if so, what is it and why?

When you get to deuce.  It can be challenging at times getting out.  LOL

If you could change one thing about tennis, what would it be?

No more deuce!

What do you consider the strongest aspect of your tennis game? Why?

My movement on the court.  I can get a good many balls back.

What part of your tennis game would you most like to improve? Why?

My serve.  Wish I had more power like my daughter Tamira.

Do you have a personal tennis match that stands out in your mind?  Please share the circumstances of that match with us.

Winning 2nd Place in the Mixed Doubles Wacky Tacky Tennis Tournament.  My first time playing mixed doubles.  It was quite grueling playing with powerful players.

Aside from tennis, in what other athletic activities do you participate?

I love volleyball.  My first love until I discovered tennis.

What is your favorite type of music?

Jazz

Name your favorite musical artist/group?

My Mom who is classically trained, Ella Fitzgerald and Luther Vandross

What is your favorite food?

Sweet Potato Pie

What can always be found in your refrigerator?

 Coconut and almond milk

What is your favorite vacation spot?

Costa del Sol, Spain

If there is anything that you would change about the world in which we live today, what would it be?

I would love to see everyone standing up for Dignity and Respect for all people!

What would most others be surprised to know about you?

I’m retired Air Force.  Served 23 years.  3 in the Reserves and 20 Active Duty.
